Bleach spots in nylon carpet can be re-stained and if done correctly will match existing carpet very well. The dirty grey traffic lanes can be lightened considerably and a brightener can be added to help mask the traffic trail. Although the brightener is not a permanent fix, it does wonders for the appearance of the carpet between scheduled cleanings.
Pet stains and odors can be addressed in all but the most extreme cases. Moderate damage done by pets, or cigarette burns, candle wax, etc. can be fixed.
In short, it is often worth consulting with a true carpet professional before deciding to replace your carpet. You may be able to save quite a bit of money and find that you can once again be proud of your carpet.
